How Much Money Do I Make Blogging?

I am always wondering how much money people make while blogging and so am excited to read earnings reports. I started to put out monthly reports myself on this blog, but when summer came and golf and softball with it, I just got too busy to write consistently. I am blogging primarily for fun and don’t have a problem skipping a week or two of posting if there are other things that I need or want to be doing. I only published 2 posts on Cash Flow Mantra (CFM) during the months of July and August.

Nevertheless, I still feel that it is worthwhile for some of you to see what can truly be achieved by a part-timer. If you only put in a consistent amount of time each day, it is possible to earn some decent extra cash in a relatively short period of time.

To give you some

Earnings Report for May 2012

It is that time of the month again (the first Saturday) when I publish my online earnings for all of my blogs and other online activities. I lump all of the revenue together and only include that money which actually gets into my pocket so there might be some money hanging out there which has yet to make a payout threshold. If you read April’s report, you knew that I actually lost money online for the first time ever. Bummer. But May was better so let’s get into it, shall we.

Starting with the revenue:

Gross Online Earnings for May 2012: $290.28

Total Expenses for May 2012: $188.50

Author Payments: $85.24 for this blog to Melissa and Derek Advertising Payment Commission: $25.00 Hosting: $9.95 for Host Gator. Plus $5.05 for domain name. I am an affiliate and if you want to sign up, feel free to use the banner on

Earnings Report for April 2012

I try to put out my online earnings report on the first Saturday of the month, but with soccer and a night out with my wife, it just had to settle for being close to that time. April turned out to be a somewhat disappointing month which you will soon see. I am working hard to get to the point that I can be assured of at least some monthly revenue so I am trying to enhance and diversify revenue streams which I will discuss later in the report.

For now, let’s just jump right into the bad news, starting with the revenue:

Gross Online Earnings for April 2012: $63.27

Total Expenses for April 2012: $315.24

Author Payments: $125.04 for this blog to Melissa and Derek Quarterly Payment for Carnival Submissions: $144 Advertising Payment Commission: $31.25 Hosting: $9.95 for Host Gator. I am an affiliate and if you want to

Earnings Report for March 2012

I know that the month still has about 3 hours to go, but I can tell you that I am not going to earn any more money this month. I only include those funds which I actually receive so I can tell you that I won’t be getting any check in the mail tonight. I publish these earning reports to offer some clear idea of what can actually be made while blogging.

Ironically, after making over $1000 online for 3 consecutive months, I have missed that number for the past two now even though this month was better than February.

If you have missed earnings reports from me in the past, I should tell you that I combine all of the earnings from all sources. I don’t want to break out the sources since some programs, such as Google’s AdSense frown on revealing certain data points. They really are OK

Don’t Give Up Your Blog Too Soon

I continually run across individuals who advocate blogging for at least two years in order to realize its greatest potential. I ran into another one this past week. The two year figure is constantly showing up so it must be true and there must be an underlying reason to it, although I am sure that it would be hard to pinpoint.

Unfortunately, blogging is truly a marathon and not a sprint so you must continue to plug away at it while getting seemingly little in return. The only thing that I can offer is to sit down, keep going, and mark your calendars. In the meantime, I will offer encouragement by posting several links that would suggest you need to stick it out for two years.

Bloggers Suggesting Two Years

I have mentioned Len Penzo on this blog before. It took him 31 months to reach one million views, but
