Make a Grand Per Month as a Nutrition Coach

Make a Grand Per Month as a Nutrition Coach

Are you always reading the latest research about what we should eat?  Have you taken nutrition courses?  Do you like to prepare healthy meals for your family and educate others about what foods people should eat to maximize their energy and nourish their bodies?  If so, then you may want to be a nutrition coach.

What Does a Nutrition Coach Do?

A nutrition coach can do a variety of tasks.  You could go to your client’s house and go through their cupboards and pantry, showing them what foods they have that are good for them as well as which ones are unhealthy and should be tossed.  You’ll need to be able to explain to them why the foods are unhealthy and what healthier replacements they can use instead.

In addition, some nutrition coaches actually go grocery shopping with their clients once or twice, explaining how to read labels and make smart choices as well as what areas of the store to shop in.

Finally, nutrition coaches can teach their clients how to make healthy, tasty recipes that they can prepare at home.

What Training Is Required?

There is no specific training required to be a nutrition coach, but many people take classes to learn about the science behind nutrition.  For instance, Integrative Nutrition offers a one year, online Health Coach Training Program.

How Can You Find Clients?

A nutrition coach can find clients in a variety of ways.  You could work with another business that helps clients who need to become healthier.  Perhaps a doctor would let you put up signs in his office.  Likewise, you could put up signs at a yoga studio or any other place people go when they are trying to get healthier.

You should also consider running a basic web site so people can find you on the web.  Developing a Facebook and Twitter following is also helpful.  You could even consider magnetic advertising on the side of your car.

How Much Should You Charge?

How much you charge as a nutrition coach will largely depend on the area of the country you live in as well as how much experience and education you have.  The best way to determine how much to charge is to look at what other nutrition coaches in your area are charging.  You may initially start at $30 to $40 per hour, but rates can rise from there.

If you spend 4 hours per month with one client, analyzing their pantries, going shopping with them and teaching them how to make healthy recipes and you charge $40 per hour, you would make $160 per client.  With 7 clients and 28 hours of work per month, you will clear a grand per month.

Working as a nutrition coach can be deeply rewarding.  You can teach people how to make healthier choices, improve their health, and possibly live longer.  While it may initially take some time to find clients, once you have a few satisfied clients, you will likely attract more.

  • I’m an ACE certified personal trainer and NASM certified fitness nutrition specialist who offers fun and effective individual and group workouts. I believe that proper eating and exercise should fit into everyone’s lifestyle without being extreme or insane. Simple changes make a big difference! A big part of my training is education; you will learn the why, not just the how, so you can maintain your weight loss for the rest of your life.
