Earnings Report for April 2012

I try to put out my online earnings report on the first Saturday of the month, but with soccer and a night out with my wife, it just had to settle for being close to that time.  April turned out to be a somewhat disappointing month which you will soon see.  I am working hard to get to the point that I can be assured of at least some monthly revenue so I am trying to enhance and diversify revenue streams which I will discuss later in the report.

For now, let’s just jump right into the bad news, starting with the revenue:

Gross Online Earnings for April 2012:  $63.27

Total Expenses for April 2012:  $315.24

  • Author Payments:  $125.04 for this blog to Melissa and Derek
  • Quarterly Payment for Carnival Submissions:  $144
  • Advertising Payment Commission:  $31.25
  • Hosting:  $9.95 for Host Gator.  I am an affiliate and if you want to sign up, feel free to use the banner on the left.
  • Author Payment for Penny Thots:  $5

Net Online Earnings for March 2012:  ($251.97)  For you non-accountants, the parentheses mean negative.  In other words, I lost money.

This is the first time that I have ever lost money during a month while writing online.  That is because I am trying to grow my online presence and my expenses are higher, but revenue fell off the cliff.  As most of us online entrepreneurs know, Google wields a lot of power and sometimes changes in algorithms (and Page Rank) can have a large impact on little guys like me.

As for the month of May, I do expect it to be a little bit better.  Obviously, the quarterly payment of $144 won’t occur.  Plus the author payments to Derek and Melissa will be less due to the lack of profit at this blog (we have a profit sharing arrangement).

Working on Monthly Revenue

Depending upon ad revenue is not guaranteed so I have been working to enhance an existing source while at the same time developing another.  First, I am wanting to get my HubPages Ad Program revenue to the point where I can have monthly payments.  I have been over $40 for the last two months and the payout is $50.  This would then cover the majority of the monthly expenses.  I am working on this by making a big push and writing an article each day during May.

So far, I have published 4 since I missed one day which was incredibly busy with life.  I will try to make it up later today and write two.  I need to make $1.67 per day to get a monthly payment on the months with 30 days.  So far in the first 4 days of May, I have made $7.67 which is above the target.

I am also planning to diversify my income streams online by writing an ebook.  This won’t help for next month and would probably take a year before I can see any major additions to monthly income.  However, I figure that I might as well give it a shot.  I have enough material in blogging posts to add up to a small novel so writing won’t be the biggest issue.  Time will.  So I will be setting aside some time and posting twice per week on Cash Flow Mantra instead of three.

I plan on posting my progress on the second Saturday of each month right here on this blog.  So check in next weekend to see if I got any writing done.  I hope you have a good remainder of the weekend and that your earnings were better than mine in April.
